FAQ

1. My spoken English is not as fluent as a native speaker. Can I still apply to be a World Centre volunteer?

Fluency in English is not always required as many volunteers come from diverse linguistic backgrounds and varying levels of English proficiency. What matters most is your enthusiasm, dedication, and willingness to learn. Your application will be considered based on your overall suitability for the role and your ability to contribute positively to the World Centre. Additionally, familiarity with the other three WAGGGS official languages (Spanish, French, and Arabic) would be greatly appreciated.

2. Some questions in the application form ask about my experiences. Am I limited to answering only those I have gained from Guiding?

No, you can include any relevant experiences in your answers. For example, you could describe the leadership skills you developed while serving on the executive committee of a club or society at your school or university.

3. Some questions in the application form ask about my experiences in specific areas like hospitality and outdoor activities. However, I have not had any experience in these areas. How should I answer?

If you have not had any direct experience in certain areas mentioned in the application form, it is okay to be honest about it. You can use this opportunity to highlight any related skills or qualities you possess that might be relevant to the role. Additionally, you could express your willingness to learn and adapt to new experiences during your time at the World Centre.

4. Is there any training provided for volunteers?

Yes, all World Centres provide training for their volunteers. This training covers everything from the history and mission of WAGGGS, to specific tasks and responsibilities you will be handling during your volunteer period.

5. Will I have free time to explore the local area during my volunteering?

Yes, volunteers usually have scheduled free time to explore the local area and participate in cultural activities. Each Centre has its own policies regarding volunteer schedules, so you should enquire about this during the application process.

6. Can I volunteer at multiple WAGGGS World Centres?

While it is possible to volunteer at multiple WAGGGS World Centres, it typically requires applying separately to each Centre and meeting their specific requirements. Some volunteers may choose to explore different Centres over time to gain diverse experiences and perspectives within the global Guiding community.

7. Is financial assistance available for volunteering at a World Centre?

Financial assistance is not guaranteed and is subject to the availability of funds and eligibility criteria. If you are eligible for financial assistance, you may receive a reimbursement, travel bursary fund, or financial aid from different World Centres and/or HKGGA. Please contact the World Centre you are applying for more information about your specific case and available options.

8. Where will I stay when volunteering at a World Centre?
Board and accommodation (usually within the grounds of the World Centre) are included for volunteers. You will have the chance to live with volunteers from all over the world.
