Instructions

How to dry flowers:

  1. To hang the flowers upside down in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight, like kitchen or in an empty closet. The flowers will shrink and change color gradually.
  2. To put a heavy book on the flowers and leave it untouched for 7 to 10 days.

How to make a bookmark:

Cut paper card into a rectangular shape, around 15-20cm long. Place the dried flowers on the paper card according to members’ style.

Stick a transparent film on it so that it can be preserved in a proper way.

Which elements of the method are used, and how?

☑ My path, my pace – Encourage members to observe and appreciate the surrounding environment. Try to preserve the beautiful things.

☑ Learning by doing – Members learn to reuse and recycle the resources in an inexpensive and environmentally friendly way. For example, using flowers for household decoration.

☑Connecting with my world – Members collect flowers/ leaves from the community. They can learn about what kind of plants can be found in their community and their characteristics.

How does the method give youth members a chance to take the lead?

Members learn to find out the value of the unused items and convert them into useful resources. A leader should also be observant and has lots of ideas.

How can you connect this activity to the values of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting?

Members share their favorite plants in the activity. They understand that only when people give a hand on preserving the natural environment, these beautiful plants can be sustained.
