Result Announcment
We are thrilled to announce the results of the Kusafiri Naming Contest. After receiving many creative submissions from our talented members, we are delighted to share the new Chinese name for Kusafiri, the World Centre located in Africa: 庫颯遊居
This name was selected by our panel of judges for its ability to capture the essence of Kusafiri – a place of adventure, exploration, and global connection within the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all members who participated in this contest. Your engagement and innovative ideas have helped us find a name that truly represents the spirit of Kusafiri and its role in the global Guiding Movement.
The winning name was announced at the Let Us Share 2024 opening ceremony on 25 February 2024, where the awards were also presented to the top entries. We hope that this new Chinese name, 庫颯遊居, will help our local members feel a stronger connection to Kusafiri and inspire them to continue their journey of global exploration and cultural exchange through the WAGGGS World Centres. Thank you all for your continued support and enthusiasm for the Kusafiri Naming Contest. We look forward to seeing how this new name will be embraced by our members and the wider Guiding community.

Since its establishment over a decade ago in 2011, the Africa-based World Centre Kusafiri is yet to have a local title for use by the Members of the Hong Kong Girl Guides Association. Through this contest, we wish to seek the creative input of our Members to give Kusafiri a Chinese name, making it easier for local Members to explore the global Guiding Movement and the World Centres of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). In particular, a motion was passed at the World Conference in 2023 to station Kusafiri in a fixed location as a trial, marking an important milestone in the history of Kusafiri.

About WAGGGS World Centre Kusafiri
- On 15 July 2011, the motion for a two-year experimental project in Africa was passed during the 34th World Conference held in Edinburgh, Scotland, laying the foundation for the establishment of the "Fifth World Centre." This day marked the official "birthday" of Kusafiri.
- In 2014, at the 35th World Conference held in Hong Kong, the establishment of the Fifth World Centre in Africa was officially approved. It aimed to provide the World Centre experience to the Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in Africa, and also allow Members around the world to explore the local cultures of Africa.
- In October 2015, this World Centre was officially named Kusafiri. In the Swahili language, Kusafiri means "to journey".
- Kusafiri is a mobile World Centre that moves to different African countries according to the needs of the event and activities. The purpose is to utilise existing facilities in Africa to bring international experiences to local Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in different African regions. Till now, Kusafiri has hosted events in several Member Organisations in Africa Region, including Ghana, South Africa, Rwanda, Kenya, Nigeria, Benin, Madagascar, Uganda, and Tanzania.
- During the 38th World Conference held in Cyprus in 2023, a motion was carried to have Kusafiri stationed in Ghana from 2024 until 2026 as a trial to be reviewed at the next World Conference, where a decision will be made on whether to permanently station Kusafiri in Ghana.
