The Hong Kong Girl Guides Association
NT North Division -Life Planning Event-Visit Civil Aviation Department

Purpose: During theCivil Aviation Department visit and participating in STEM experience activities, Brownies/Guides/Rangers can learn aviation knowledge and STEM tenet. They may understand the importance of international air transport hubs and global aviation cooperation. This activity helps to connect different units in NTN Division. it also helps Girl Guides to cultivate their personal interests and develop their talents, build the good foundation for their studies or work in the future.

Date: 23June, 2024 (Sunday)
Meeting time: 1:00 pm at Sheung Shui MTR Station, 1:20 pm at Tai Po Market MTR Station
Dismissal time: Tai Po Market MTR Station at about 4:40 pm, Sheung Shui MTR Station at about 5 pm
Activity time: 2 pm to 4 pm
Location: Civil Aviation Department Headquarters, 1 Tung Fai Road, Hong Kong International Airport, Lantau Island, Hong Kong

Activity content : 

     1. Civil Aviation Department Aviation Education Trail
1.1. Improve aviation knowledge
1.1.1. The Aviation Education Trail aims to enhance visitors' understanding of the functions and concepts of the Civil Aviation Department, while introducing various jobs in the civil aviation industry.
1.2. Understand Hong Kong's aviation history and latest developments
1.2.1. In the aviation education trail, Girl Guide will see various themed exhibits, including Hong Kong's aviation history and latest developments.
1.3. Understand the roles and responsibilities of the Civil Aviation Department
1.3.1. Girl Guide can gain a deeper understanding of various areas closely related to civil aviation and understand Hong Kong's role as an international air transport hub.
1.4. Control tower simulation experience
1.4.1. Girl Guide can have a control tower simulation experience, allowing Girl Guide to be like air traffic controllers in the control tower controlling different passenger planes landing at the Hong Kong International Airport.
1.5. Promote aviation knowledge and interest
1.5.1. The Civil Aviation Department Headquarters Building has set up an aviation education trail to promote aviation knowledge and interest to the public, especially the younger generation.

     2. Indoor slope glider
2.1. Understand basic aviation principles
2.1.1. By making and flying a glider, Girl Guide can learn how to use aerodynamics (such as lift, drag, and thrust) to control the aircraft.
2.2. Practice problem-solving skills
2.2.1. In the process of designing and adjusting the glider, Girl Guide need to solve various problems, such as how to improve flight distance or stability
2.3. Enhance innovation and critical thinking
2.3.1. Girl Guide need innovative thinking and critical analysis to optimize their glider designs
2.4. Provide practical experience
2.4.1. Compared with theoretical learning, practical operation can enable Girl Guides to understand aviation principles more intuitively
2.5. Teamwork
2.5.1. In the process of making a glider, Girl Guide need to learn how to cooperate with others and solve problems together
2.6. Stimulate interest in aviation
2.6.1. Girl Guide can be inspired to become interested in aviation and aerospace science by making and flying gliders.

Target audience: All Brownies ( Grade 4 to 6) and Girl Guides in the North Division  who have taken the oath
Fees: Free
Quota: 40 
Uniform: Outdoor uniform
Deadline: 7 June,2024 (Friday)

Registration method:
1. Please fill out the Google Form and click here to register.
2. Submit the health certificate and parent/guardian consent form via email (PDF click here) send to holly.mok@hkgga.org.hk
3. If there are too many applicants, the application will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. If the registration information is incomplete, the registration will not be processed.
4. Once admitted, all admitted candidates are not allowed to switch or withdraw at will without the permission of the conference.

Remarks:

1. The conference will arrange tour bus pick-up (from Sheung Shui and Tai Po Market railway stations to and from Lantau Island)
2. Memorandum of the event will be issued to the Guider one week before the event.

Weather conditions Measures:

If the Observatory hoists Typhoon Signal No. 3, Thunderstorm Warning or Yellow Rainstorm Warning Signal two hours before the event, the event will be held as usual. Activities will be canceled if Typhoon Signal No. 3 or above, red or black rainstorm warning, or the Education Bureau announces class suspension. The weather report is subject to the information released by the Observatory.
