Activity: Searching for music fun

Age Group​

Guides Section – 10-13 years old

Time needed​

45-60 minutes

Learning Goal​

To teach members some basic music knowledge and encourage them to enjoy music fun.

Instructions​

  1. Members search and find the question cards and musical notes from different places in school / meeting place.
  2. Members answer the questions and mark down on a paper.
  3. Members try to write a short song by using the musical notes and perform in front of the Unit.

Q1. Does an oboe belong to a wind instrument or a stringed instrument?    

A1. Wind instrument 

 

Q2. How to classify western musical instruments?  

A2. Wind, strings and percussion

 

Q3. Write down a Chinese musical instrument.  

A3. Guqin, Guzheng, Pipa, Erhu, Dizi

 

Q4. What is the measurement unit for sound volume?

Which elements of the method are used, and how?​

☑ Learning in small groups – Members work together to answer the questions. Some members with music knowledge can help create a song.

☑ My path, my pace – Everyone has her own strength. Some members may have sweet voice. Some are good at following beats. Some can play musical instruments well. Members learn to appreciate their strength and contribute their abilities in the event.

☑ Learning by doing – Members develop their confidence during performance. They are also encouraged to express their creativity through music.

☑Connecting with others – Music can be regarded as another way of communication. Members can connect with others/ tell their own stories through music.
