Activity: Make New Friends

Time Needed

20 minutes

Learning Goal

Get to know the new members and explore the similarities and differences of each other

You will need Small papers with member’s name on it, some music

Instructions

  1. Stick on each members back a small paper with the other member’s name
  2. When music starts, members look for the person with the paper of her name, and take her hand.  A big circle formed finally with all the members taking hands together
  3. If a new member is met, introduce each other and to explore any common interest or favorite food, etc…
  4. Guider may invite members to introduce the new friends to the rest of the group

☑ My path, my pace – New members can have to chance to make new friends, while experienced members can help the new ones to get involved to the group

 

☑ Learning by doing – Taking the challenge to do the break the ice with new friends and to increase participation

 

☑ Connecting with others  – Members learn to get interact with others and to help each other

How does the method give youth members a chance to take the lead?

Active members can lead passive ones to look for the target, in order to develop confidence; give opportunities in communicate with each other and to introduce new friends to the others

How can you connect this activity to the values of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting?

Guiders can discuss with members the feelings when making new friends, and to be caring and respect with each other.
